Nextdoor Recruiting: Can You Hire Locally on Nextdoor?

Yes, with limits. As of 30 September 2026, a business with a claimed and verified Business Page can publish Business Posts to nearby neighbors, and can run Nextdoor Ads, whose ad policy lists job listings as a type of employment ad with its own rules. Nextdoor’s help center has no article specifically on job posts, and staff promoting the business from personal accounts is not allowed in the main feed. It suits local hourly and part-time roles. Check Nextdoor’s current policy before you post.

Can businesses post jobs on Nextdoor? Policy as of 30 September 2026

Nextdoor does not publish a job-posting feature or a job-post policy in its help center. What it does publish settles most of the question:

  • Business Posts are for verified businesses. Nextdoor’s Create a business post on Nextdoor article says all businesses that have claimed and verified a Business Page can post updates, events and polls. Posting is unlimited, but excessive posting and spam break its Community Guidelines.
  • Not from a personal account. Under Self-Promotion using your Personal Account, self-promotional posts can no longer be made from a personal (neighbor) account, and posts by family, staff or close friends on behalf of a business are treated as business promotion and are not allowed in the main feed. The policy defines self-promotion around acquiring customers and does not mention hiring, so the safe course is to post jobs from the Business Page, not from a manager’s own account.
  • Job ads are allowed as employment ads. The Nextdoor Ads Policy & Guidelines list “job listings and other forms of opportunities for employment” as employment advertisements, including full-time, part-time, internships and apprenticeships. Employment ads must not assert or imply that sex, gender or gender identity, age, familial status, marital status or ZIP code are relevant, and multi-level marketing and get-rich-quick opportunities are prohibited.

Policies change without notice. Read the linked pages on the day you post.

Business posts vs Nextdoor Ads

The two work differently, and the difference is reach.

  • Business Posts are free once the Business Page is claimed. Nextdoor says distribution depends partly on how the post performs, with more engagement leading to more neighbors seeing it, and neighbors who have Faved your business are eligible to see your posts.
  • Nextdoor Ads are paid and, per the same article, can reach neighbors up to 30 miles from your business. Nextdoor offers a simple ad interface from the business profile and Nextdoor Ads Manager, which adds lead generation and pixel tracking.

Ads Manager’s lead generation ads fit hiring best. According to Create lead generation ads, they run in the Newsfeed only, carry a form of 2 to 11 fields (pre-filled options include name, phone, email, address and ZIP code, plus up to three free-text and three multiple-choice questions), and can end on a success page with an “Apply Now” button to your careers page. Keep the form short and ask only for real requirements; see pre-screening questions.

Which roles Nextdoor fits: local hourly, home services and part-time

Nextdoor’s strength is proximity: its feed is organized around neighborhoods. That suits jobs where living nearby is most of the appeal:

  • Part-time and school-hours roles at shops, restaurants, schools and clinics in the neighborhood.
  • Home services crews such as cleaners, landscapers and technicians who start from a local yard.
  • Caregivers and home care aides serving clients in the same area.

It is a weaker fit for licensed roles you must draw from a wide area, such as nurses or CDL drivers, and for multi-site hiring across a region. For those, reach matters more than neighborhood, and a platform with a larger audience does more of the work. Another community channel with narrow uses is covered in Reddit recruiting.

What Nextdoor recruiting costs and how to measure it

Business Posts cost nothing. Nextdoor Ads have no published price: you set the spend. Per Setting Your Spend Using Budget & Bids, you choose a daily goal or a lifetime budget, then a bid: a fixed cost per thousand impressions, or optimization for impressions, clicks, or conversions (conversion bidding needs the Nextdoor Pixel). Nextdoor advises giving the model about seven days to learn before judging results, and another seven after each change.

Measure it the way you measure any job channel:

  • Cost per applicant: total spend divided by completed applications (leads), not clicks.
  • Apply rate: leads divided by clicks, from the Reports tab.
  • Applicants to hires: tag Nextdoor as the source in your applicant tracking system and count starts.

For a comparison point on Meta: in Boostpoint’s 2026 Social Job Advertising Benchmark, the median campaign cost $13.88 per applicant, and the median monthly campaign budget was $334 and the median campaign-month produced 20 applicants. Those are Facebook and Instagram figures, not Nextdoor’s. Cost per applicant is not cost per hire.

Nextdoor vs Facebook local job ads

The differences are audience size and targeting rules. Pew Research Center’s 2025 survey found 71% of U.S. adults use Facebook. On Meta, employment ads fall in a special ad category: no age, gender or ZIP-code targeting and a minimum 15-mile location radius (see Meta’s special ad category). Nextdoor ads reach up to 30 miles, and its policy bars employment ads from implying that age, gender or ZIP code is relevant.

In Boostpoint’s 2026 benchmark, local hourly role families on Meta cost the following per applicant:

Cost per applicant for local hourly role families on Meta, 2026
Role familyMedianMiddle 50%Apply rate
Customer service / admin$2.71$2.14 – $7.4725%
Caregiver / home care$3.76$2.99 – $5.8331%
Warehouse / production$9.83$3.15 – $18.7220%
Technician / mechanic$13.41$7.40 – $23.5816%

Boostpoint does not report cleaners, landscapers or restaurant staff separately; the nearest families are shown. A practical split: use Nextdoor Business Posts as a free neighborhood channel, and run paid ads where the audience is largest. For radius and location tactics see geofencing recruiting; for how paid social job ads work, see social media job advertising; and for every channel with its cost, how to advertise a job.

Frequently asked questions

Can businesses post jobs on Nextdoor?

Yes, from a claimed and verified Business Page, which can publish Business Posts. Nextdoor’s help center has no specific job-post policy as of 30 September 2026, and it does not allow staff or family to promote a business from personal accounts in the main feed. Paid job ads are allowed as employment ads under Nextdoor’s ad policy.

Is Nextdoor good for hiring local workers?

It can be for part-time, home services and single-site hourly roles, because the feed is built around neighborhoods. Free Business Posts reach nearby neighbors, with engagement widening their reach, and ads can reach up to 30 miles. For licensed or multi-site roles you usually need a wider audience, such as Facebook and Instagram.

How much do Nextdoor ads cost?

Nextdoor does not publish a price. You set a daily goal or lifetime budget and choose a bid: fixed cost per thousand impressions, or optimization for impressions, clicks or conversions. Judge it by cost per completed application from its lead generation ads, and give each change about seven days, as Nextdoor advises.

Does Nextdoor allow job listings?

Nextdoor’s ad policy lists job listings as employment advertisements, covering full-time, part-time, internships and apprenticeships, and forbids implying that age, sex, gender, familial or marital status, or ZIP code is relevant. We found no separate job-posting feature in Nextdoor’s help center; listings go out as Business Posts or ads.
