Most quality technicians are already employed on someone else’s plant floor. Boostpoint puts your job in front of them on Facebook and Instagram, where they scroll between shifts.

How to Recruit Quality Technicians: Where They Are and What Gets Them to Apply
To recruit quality technicians, promote from your own inspectors and operators first, then go after the employed technicians at nearby plants with a mobile ad that names the pay, the shift and the equipment (CMM platform, SPC software, quality system). Keep the application to a few questions, screen for blueprint reading and gauge work rather than years, and text every applicant within minutes, because a working technician is rarely looking for long.
Who you are actually hiring
BLS does not count quality technicians on their own. They sit inside inspectors, testers, sorters, samplers and weighers (SOC 51-9061), an occupation of 602,000 workers in 2025 that BLS projects to grow 2.5 percent by 2035, with about 66,700 openings a year (BLS Employment Projections 2025-35). BLS lists a high school diploma as the typical entry education and moderate-term on-the-job training.
That federal group mixes two different hires. An inspector measures parts and accepts or rejects them. A quality technician does that and also runs the system behind it: SPC charts, gauge calibration, CMM programs and root-cause work with engineering. Decide which one you need before you recruit, because the second one is scarcer and is almost always already employed. Our quality technician job description lays out the split in detail, and the quality control inspector job description covers the inspection-only role.
Where to find quality technicians
Your own line and inspection team
The best quality technicians often started as operators or inspectors on the product they now measure. They already know the parts, the gauges and the people. Post the job internally before you advertise it, and say what training you will pay for. Then write the external ad for the skill you cannot grow in-house, usually CMM programming or SPC ownership.
Employed technicians at nearby plants
Most experienced quality technicians are not on job boards. They are working a shift within commuting distance of you. Facebook and Instagram reach them where they already spend time, and a job ad that names your CMM brand and quality system is the one they notice. Employment ads on Meta run in a special ad category: no targeting by age, gender or ZIP code, and a location radius of at least 15 miles, which suits a role people commute to.
Adjacent roles
- Machinists and CNC operators who already read prints and use precision measuring tools
- Lab technicians in food, chemical or testing labs who are used to test methods and documentation
- Maintenance technicians who have calibrated instruments and want a day-shift, less physical role
- QA technicians in food and packaging plants who know record review and audits
Schools and referrals
Community college manufacturing, metrology and quality programs produce entry-level technicians every term. Get to know the instructor, offer plant tours, and hire interns. For experienced hires, pay a referral bonus to your current technicians: they went to school or worked with the people you want. Our employee referral guide covers how to structure one.
What to pay quality technicians
The BLS median annual wage for the whole inspector and tester group was $48,570 in May 2025. Because that figure blends inspectors with technicians, a role that owns SPC, calibration and CMM programming should be priced against local technician offers, not the national median. The wage section of our quality technician job description breaks pay down by industry. Whatever the number is, put it in the first line of the ad.
How to write the ad for a quality technician
A working technician checks three things before anything else: the pay, the shift, and whether the equipment and quality system match what they know. Say all three in the first two lines. Then say whether you train and whether you pay for certification.
Sample ad (a hypothetical plant; use your own rate, software and standard): Quality Technician, 1st shift, $27 an hour. Own our SPC charts and run the CMM (PC-DMIS) in a climate-controlled lab. IATF 16949 plant, paid ASQ exam fees, a real path to quality engineer. Apply in two minutes from your phone.
If the lab is climate controlled, say so: many candidates are measuring parts on a plant floor that is not. More on the craft is in job ad copywriting.
Screening questions for a quality technician application
Keep the mobile application short. Knock out only on things the job truly requires, such as the shift. Score skills instead of rejecting on them, because a strong inspector with no CMM time may still be your best hire.
- This role is first shift, Monday to Friday. Can you work that schedule? (knockout; use your real shift)
- Which measuring tools have you used: calipers and micrometers, height gauge, CMM, vision system?
- Have you kept SPC charts or run a gauge R&R study?
- Can you read blueprints with GD&T callouts?
- Which quality systems have you worked under: ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, FDA?
Do not make ASQ certification a requirement. ASQ asks for four years of on-the-job experience in its body of knowledge areas to sit the Certified Quality Technician exam, with one to three years waived for a quality technology program or a degree (ASQ). Requiring it rules out most early-career technicians. Offer to pay for it instead.
Speed and follow-up
An employed technician applies on a break and forgets by the end of the shift. Text them within minutes, confirm the shift and pay, and set a call with the quality manager the same week. A hands-on part measurement in the interview tells you more than any resume line.
What a quality technician applicant costs
Boostpoint’s 2026 Social Job Advertising Benchmark (891 Boostpoint-managed campaigns on Meta) has no quality technician or inspector role family, so we do not publish a quality technician figure. Across all campaigns the median cost per applicant was $13.88, with the middle half between $6.48 and $29.74. The apply experience explained 70% of cost variation between campaigns: campaigns converting 20% to 35% of clicks paid $4.41 per applicant, against $23.13 at 5% to 10%. These costs include campaign management and cover advertising only; cost per applicant is not cost per hire. See the full benchmark.

Frequently asked questions
How do you recruit quality technicians?
Start with your own inspectors and operators, then advertise to employed technicians near you with a mobile ad that states pay, shift, equipment and quality system. Keep the application short and text applicants within minutes.
Where can I find quality technicians?
On your own line, at nearby plants (reached through Facebook and Instagram ads), in community college manufacturing and metrology programs, and among machinists, lab technicians and food-plant QA technicians who already measure and document.
What should I pay a quality technician?
BLS reports a $48,570 median annual wage for inspectors, testers, sorters, samplers and weighers in May 2025, the group that includes quality technicians. Technicians who own SPC and CMM work usually command more than that blended figure, so check local offers. See our quality technician job description.
Should I require ASQ CQT certification?
No. ASQ requires four years of relevant on-the-job experience to sit the exam, less with a certificate or degree, so making it a requirement excludes most early-career candidates. Treat it as a plus and offer to pay the exam fee.
What screening questions should a quality technician application ask?
Shift availability as the only knockout, then scored questions on measuring tools, SPC and gauge studies, blueprint and GD&T reading, and which quality systems the candidate has worked under.
How much does a quality technician applicant cost on Facebook?
Boostpoint's 2026 benchmark has no quality technician role family. Across 891 campaigns the median cost per applicant was $13.88, and campaigns converting 20% to 35% of clicks paid $4.41, so a short application matters. Cost per applicant is not cost per hire.
What is the difference between a quality technician and a quality inspector?
An inspector checks product against the specification. A technician also runs the quality system: SPC charts, calibration, CMM programs and root-cause work. BLS counts both in the same occupation.
