How to Recruit Flooring Installers: Name the Materials, Say How You Pay, Ask for Photos
To recruit flooring installers, put the materials in the job title (LVP, laminate, carpet, tile, hardwood), state plainly how you pay: hourly, by the square foot or by the job, W-2 or subcontract, and say what tools and vehicle you supply. Recruit helpers from construction and remodeling crews and train them up, reach experienced installers with Facebook and Instagram ads in your service area, and replace the résumé with a short mobile form plus photos of recent work sent by text.
Which flooring installer are you recruiting?
BLS splits the trade into four occupations, and they are moving in different directions. That matters for recruiting: the carpet-only installer pool is getting smaller, while resilient flooring and tile are growing. If tile is most of your work, see how to recruit tile setters.
| Occupation | Employed, 2025 | Change, 2025-35 | Openings a year | Median annual wage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tile and stone setters | 45,200 | +9.8% | 3,300 | $55,690 |
| Floor layers, except carpet, wood, and hard tiles (vinyl, laminate, resilient) | 29,800 | +9.0% | 2,200 | $56,460 |
| Carpet installers | 17,400 | -16.4% | 700 | $50,340 |
| Floor sanders and finishers | 4,700 | +1.4% | 300 | $50,440 |
Hardwood floor installers are counted separately again: BLS lists "Hardwood Floor Installer" and "Wood Floor Layer" as example titles under carpenters. BLS lists no formal educational credential as typical for any of the four flooring occupations above, with on-the-job training as the way in. In practice, most companies want someone who can lay LVP, laminate and carpet in the same week, and the ad should say which combination you need.
Where to find flooring installers
Experienced installers are small in number and usually busy, so where to find flooring installers is less about a single board and more about the people nearby who already do adjacent work.
- Installers working as subs for other companies. Experienced installers often work as independent subcontractors. Steady volume, reliable pay and material on site when promised are the things to lead with.
- Helpers on other crews. Helpers who have been cutting and carrying for a lead for a year or two may be ready to run their own jobs if someone offers the chance.
- Construction and remodeling laborers. Demo, subfloor prep and haul-away are the first skills on a flooring crew. See how to recruit construction workers.
- Adjacent finish trades. Drywall finishers, trim carpenters and tile helpers already work to a finish standard in customers' homes.
- Referrals from your installers. Crews know who is good and who is available. Pay the referral on a retention milestone.
- Facebook and Instagram ads. Ads reach installers who are working and not searching job boards. Meta's Employment special ad category requires at least a 15-mile radius and blocks age, gender and ZIP code targeting (how that works), which fits a service-area business.

What to pay flooring installers, and how to describe it
The May 2025 BLS medians above ($50,340 to $56,460 depending on the occupation) are a starting point; the wage section of our flooring installer job description has more detail. How you pay matters as much as how much. An installer comparing offers will work out the real number from:
- Hourly, per square foot, or per job, and what happens on a day the material is late or the subfloor is bad.
- W-2 employee or subcontractor, and whether that changes the rate.
- Who supplies the truck, trailer, saws and power tools.
- How often you pay, and how many weeks of booked work you have.
Answer those in the ad. An installer who has to call to find out whether "competitive pay" means a square-foot rate or an hourly wage often doesn't bother calling.
How to write the flooring installer ad
Lead with materials and setting, then pay method, then the physical reality. Kneeling most of the day is the job; saying so and naming the knee pads and dust control you provide filters in the people who will stay.
- "Flooring Installer, LVP, laminate and carpet. Residential remodels, weekly pay, company truck, tools supplied."
- "Tile Setter: showers, backsplashes and floors. Steady booked work, paid by the square foot, W-2 with benefits."
- "Flooring Helper, no experience needed. Learn install from a lead, paid hourly, path to your own jobs."
Screening questions for a mobile application
- Which materials have you installed? LVP / laminate / sheet vinyl / carpet / tile / hardwood (Multi-select; scores, does not knock out.)
- How many years have you installed flooring as the lead installer? (Scores.)
- Do you have a valid driver's license? (Knockout if the role drives to job sites alone.)
- Do you have your own basic hand tools? (Informational; say what you supply.)
- Are you looking for W-2 employment, subcontract work, or either? (Routes the candidate; does not knock out.)
- Can you text us photos of two recent installs after you apply? (Portfolio; far more useful than a résumé.)
Leave physical demands and background checks to the job description and the offer stage rather than stacking knockouts on the form.
Speed and follow-up: the best way to recruit flooring installers
The best way to recruit flooring installers is to make the first conversation fast and concrete. Text within minutes, ask for the photos, and offer a paid trial day on a real job once the photos and a phone call check out. An experienced installer with a full calendar will not wait a week for an interview. Boostpoint Connect, the SMS add-on to Boostpoint Attract, sends the instant text on apply and runs follow-up sequences per job from a shared inbox, so the photos come back to the same thread your team works from.
What it costs to recruit flooring installers
The Skilled trades family in Boostpoint's 2026 benchmark had a median of $14.14 per applicant on Meta, a middle half between $7.58 and $21.49, a blended cost of $10.74, and a 15% apply rate. Costs are what advertisers paid for advertising only; cost per applicant is not cost per hire. See the full benchmark.
Across the benchmark, the apply experience explained 70% of cost variation between campaigns. For installers, dropping the résumé upload and asking for photos by text afterwards is the easiest improvement.
Frequently asked questions
How do you recruit flooring installers?
Name the materials in the title, state your pay method (hourly, per square foot or per job; W-2 or sub) and what you supply, recruit helpers and adjacent trades, advertise on Facebook and Instagram in your service area, and ask for photos of recent work instead of a résumé.
Where can I find flooring installers?
Among installers subbing for other companies, helpers on other crews, construction and remodeling laborers, adjacent finish trades, and your own crew's referrals. Social ads reach the ones who are working and not searching job boards.
How much do flooring installers make?
BLS May 2025 median annual wages were $55,690 for tile and stone setters, $56,460 for floor layers (except carpet, wood and hard tiles), $50,340 for carpet installers, and $50,440 for floor sanders and finishers.
Do flooring installers need a license?
BLS lists no formal educational credential as typical for the flooring occupations. Contractor licensing rules vary by state and sometimes by city, so check your state's requirements for your business and any subcontractors you use.
Is it harder to find carpet installers than other flooring installers?
The pool is shrinking. BLS projects carpet installer employment to fall 16.4% from 2025 to 2035, while floor layers and tile and stone setters grow. Posting carpet as one of several materials reaches more candidates.
What does it cost per applicant to advertise flooring installer jobs on Facebook?
The Skilled trades family in Boostpoint's 2026 benchmark had a median of $14.14 per applicant and a 15% apply rate. That is cost per applicant, not cost per hire.
Should I hire experienced installers or train helpers?
Most companies need both. Experienced leads are scarce, so a helper-to-installer path, stated in the ad, widens the pool and gives you the next lead installer.
Keep the calendar booked with installers you found first
Boostpoint Attract runs your flooring installer ads on Facebook and Instagram with the creative made for you, and Boostpoint Connect texts every applicant the moment they apply so the photos and the phone call happen the same day.
